Protecting our Values, Planning our Future District 6 Seat A
ABOUT ANDY
ROOTED IN SEYMOUR: Local Commitment, Shared Values
I am not just running for District 6; I am from District 6. My commitment is absolute because my life is here.
- Lifelong Resident: This community raised me. There is a good chance you watched me grow up here, I taught your child, or maybe even taught you.
- Family First: My wife, Jennifer, works in Sevier County Schools, and our three boys attend Seymour Schools. I look at policy decisions through the lens of their future, and yours.
- Local Focus: I believe our county's incredible tax base should be used more effectively to help all residents, especially those in our unincorporated areas like Seymour.
EXPERIENCE THAT MATTERS: Local Expertise in Fiscal Policy
The Commission's largest responsibility is managing our budget. I bring professional, hands-on experience, not political aspirations.
- Financial Expertise: I was a Political Science Major (focused on local/state government) and later earned my Doctorate in Leadership with a focus on financial policy and Education, the single largest part of Sevier County's budget.
- Local Leadership: I spent 16 years working as a teacher and administrator right here in Sevier County Schools. I've worked with Republican state leaders in Nashville, but my dedication is here, on the local level.
OUR VALUES
My commitment is deeply rooted in the values instilled in me by my Christian faith and by growing up right here in this community. When I say "Protecting Our Values, Planning Our Future," these are the values I mean to uphold:
1. Love Your Neighbor
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Mark 12:31)
Loving our neighbor means actively working for the well-being and unity of our community. I will champion policies that strengthen our families, support our local businesses, and ensure that Commission decisions lift every resident.
2. Be a Good Steward
"The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof..." (Psalm 24:1)
My faith calls me to be a responsible steward. I will approach budgeting, zoning, and resource allocation with careful thought, ensuring we are wisely investing for generations to come. This includes protecting our natural beauty and fiscal health.
3. Walk with Integrity
"The righteous man walks in his integrity..." (Proverbs 20:7)
I learned the importance of a handshake and keeping your word. I will serve with transparency, honesty, and an unwavering moral compass. You deserve a Commissioner who is accountable.
OUR FUTURE
Sevier County is growing rapidly, and we can't afford to wait for solutions. I will prioritize responsible, forward-thinking investments. The 3 core plans are Roads, Responsible Growth, and Investing in the Next Generation.
1. Infrastructure & Traffic Relief
- Prioritize Local Commutes: Focus county funds on relieving daily bottlenecks and identifying dangerous intersections to keep our families safe.
- Demand Project Completion: Hold state and utility partners accountable for the swift delivery of major projects (like the I-40 interchange).
- Maintain Our Roads: Ensure the Highway Fund focuses on robust maintenance and paving programs for our secondary county roads.
2. Responsible Growth Management
- Common-Sense Zoning: Advocate for updated regulations that prevent "spot zoning" and protect our existing family-friendly communities.
- Address Housing: Support collaborative planning to increase the supply of affordable workforce housing for teachers, nurses, and service workers.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Ensure every new development contributes its fair share to the costs of increased traffic, school enrollment, and infrastructure needs.
3. Investing in the Next Generation
- Fully Fund Education: Use my 16 years of experience to champion the school system's operational and capital budget requests, ensuring adequate facility capacity.
- Support Staff Retention: Advocate for competitive salaries and benefits for all school personnel, teachers, administrators, and support staff.
- Prioritize Early Learning & Pre-K: Advocate for resources and planning that support expanding access to high-quality early childhood education and Pre-K programs.
IS THE DUMP OPEN?
Okay, Sevier County, let's be honest: how many times have you or a friend asked "Is the dump open?ā
It's one of the longest-running jokes in our community, but it actually highlights a real problem: local government services should be easy to access and understand.
